A little back story on myself:
Before I was a mom, I was your average anime nerd who spent a decentish amount of time making cosplay to wear to yearly conventions. I had a lot of help with the sewing because even though I've owned a sewing machine for the past seven or eight years, I never learned to use it. That will soon change though as I have a friend willing to teach me how to use it. I hope it still works.
Some examples of me as a cosplayer. I did most of my own accessories and all of my weapons.
Now that I'm a mom, I don't have time or money to make elaborate costumes for myself but I have been known to make them for my son. This has produced some adorable results. Where before as a college kid I would settle for nothing less than custom sewing, as a mom I have accepted the help of "This shirt looks close enough" online shopping.
My projects now are not limited to cosplay either. I've been really excited to embrace any holiday or event where I can utilize my love of crafting. My son's birthday parties have probably been the most crafting work I've done in the last two years.
My goal is to post a blog once a week going over some of the projects I have done since my son was born. I think my hope is that maybe one day another mom will read this blog and either feel better about their own crafting abilities or they will see that even if it doesn't go to plan, it is still worth trying.
And don't worry. I work full time. So this isn't one of those "Oh it's so easy! it only took me 2 weeks working day and night to accomplish!" blogs. All of my projects were done with the minimal amount of time I have free during the day between about 8-11 PM. Usually it does take a few weeks to get things done but that is only because some night I didn't feel like working on it or I had other chores I had to get done. When I do go over something that was time consuming, I will try to notate ways I could have saved time if only I had known what I was doing wrong at the time.
And with that I will sign off for now! My next post will start a chronological timeline of projects I have done since my son was born.
